‘If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound?’
The documentation of dance practice and performance is essential to the growth of the sector and yet is often overlooked. As a result, many of the performances that take place nationally are either not recorded, recorded as an after thought, or recorded professionally and not published. Lack of resources is a major factor in this decision, as is the lack of film makers with the skills to recognise the more significant movements or aspects to the artists practice.
As part of our research HAVOC are looking at ways to film and disseminate dance work on an ongoing basis, so that the professional dance community AND public bodies, will have access to the hard work that goes on, primarily, behind closed doors.
